Double Majors for Slane College Students
Departments within the Slane College offer Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees which are designed to be compatible with additional majors. Combinations are almost limitless and may be constructed to meet individual interests. By completing a double major, students increase their prospects for employment and also broaden their opportunities to discover crossdisciplinary and interactive combinations of study.
For example, Music students may wish to enter the world of "music business" as managers, retailers, or producers. Theatre students enhance their credentials with structured study in Radio/Television, Advertising/ Public Relations, Business Management, or Art. Art students benefit from "double majoring" within the studio concentrations of the department as well as from study of liberal arts and the sciences or Marketing. Communication students may double major in virtually any subject because they will be involved with a variety of areas such as government, the arts, public policy, economics, education, sports, and management. Certification for secondary school teachers constitutes a second major for those interested and qualified for challenging teaching professions.
Bradley degree students meet both university general education and departmental major requirements. The general education component consists of approximately one third of the total requirements for graduation. BA or BS major requirements account for approximately one third, leaving one third for a combination of electives and study toward the second major. It is possible to complete requirements for double majors within the total requirements for the degree
A large number of Slane College majors nationwide often pursue careers in law or medicine after their undergraduate work. Also, many industries, such as the computer industry, value the individual competencies communications and fine arts majors develop which can be applied to the professional world. The values of the Slane College - Imagination, Creativity, and Communication, are also highly valued by potential employers.
Minors
Departments within the Slane College, as well as many other departments at Bradley, also offer "minors" which are abbreviated programs requiring approximately half of the courses needed for a "major." Students may prefer completing a minor and preserving additional elective courses in their programs.
Students should consult early with a faculty advisor to plan a program for double majors and minors in order to fully realize their personal and professional goals.
Note: The Bachelor of Fine Arts and the Bachelor of Music are professional degrees which require concentrated study and which are not compatible with a second major within the normal course of study.
