  • Alpha Psi Omega

    Alpha Psi Omega is a national honorary theatre fraternity; Bradley's chapter of Alpha Psi Omega is the Kappa Epsilon cast.

     

    The purpose of Alpha Psi Omega is the following: to stimulate interest in the theatre within our department, the university, and the community. To maintain an open line of communication between the faculty and the students of the theatre department. To be an organization concerned with leadership both in production and the classroom by being responsible for maintaining a positive and professional atmosphere, a willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty, and by encouraging a high standard of academic and artistic integrity. Alpha Psi Omega is governed under the motto, "We seek to become humble artists by the one and only road of labor and service". Alpha Psi Omega inducts new members twice a year - in the Fall and in the Spring. There are many opportunities to excel as a leader within this organization, which directly affects the structure and well-being of our theatre department. Alpha Psi Omega promotes theatre excellence, dedication, professionalism, and a passion for the craft of theatre.

     

    Every year Alpha Psi Omega plans several actives for students to participate in such as Fall Bonfire, Ice Cream Social, and Study Day Luncheon.  Each incoming freshman/transfer Theatre major also recieves a Big Sib' who is a member of Alpha Psi Omega.  This Big Sib' is there to help them learn about the department and Bradley, be there for guidance, and most importantly, be a friend.

     

    Alpha Psi Omega also creates a yearly Drag Show as a philanthropy to benefit Central Illinois FRIENDS of People with AIDS.  Students create and choreograph a 12 number show that is performed in early Febuary.

  • United States Institute for Theatre Technology Student Chapter

    Welcome to the Bradley University Theater Department!  We are the BU Student Chapter of the United States Institute of Theater Technology, a national organization of theatrical designers, tech crews and managers.  USITT is dedicated to promoting the advancement of knowledge and skills of its members.  This is our seventh year of operation and the 50th year anniversary of the founding of USITT.

    As an organization, we strive to embody these ideals:

    • Educating members by exposing them to professionals in their fields
    • Involving ourselves in the Bradley Theater department and around the school to practice our skills and help the community
    • Prepare theater majors for the real world through resume construction and portfolio preparation sessions
    • Spread knowledge of the hard work that technical theater works do to make shows succeed.

    We are pleased to sponsor an annual trip to the USITT National Conference.  The Conference is the best opportunity to see what is on the cutting edge of theater tech in this country, and to explore theater in other countries via USITT’s international connections.  The BU USITT chapter strives to help its members by covering as much as the cost as possible, through fundraisers and student grants.  This year the Conference is in Kansas City, Missouri on March 31 – April 3.  As it is the 50th Anniversary of the USITT Conference, we are working especially hard on sending a strong delegation.

    If you are interested in becoming a part of the Bradley chapter of USITT, we meet on Wednesdays @ 5:00 PM in the LAB Theater.  Or contact Forrest Sayrs at fsayrs@gmail.com  You do not need to be a theater major or minor.  Just sign up and we’ll welcome you with open arms.

    M.E.T. Mission Statement

    The Ministry of Experimental Theatre is a student-managed organization with the purpose of encouraging artistic growth, integrity, and education for ourselves and our audiences. We, as artists, are dedicated to challenging ourselves and our perceptions of the world through the theatrical experience. Finally, the Ministry of Experimental Theatre shall be a safe and comfortable environment for the creation of experimental and traditional theatre.

  • Barbeque Kitten

    OPEN Rehearsals

    EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT

    10:30PM (but arrive early)

    Right outside the Hartmann Theatre

    or Geisert Cafeteria (during the cold nights)

    All rehearsals are open rehearsals, anyone can come, anyone can play, that's the rule. We start out with a lesson or two, and then play games to build on those lessons and try to give you some tips and pointers and make some observations. Both kittens and non-kittens play. It's a great chance to get over the jitters and play with an audience!

    Becoming a Kitten

    Think you've got it? Think you can do the improv thing in front of the tens of people that show up at our shows? Well then, good luck...Seeya.

    Oh, still here? Fine then, here's the trick. There are no auditions. There are no real ways to "join". Here's the process:

    • Come to the OPEN rehearsals Wednesday Nights at 10:30pm by the theatre (Remember, Anyone can come, Anyone can play)
    • We may invite you to come to a CLOSED rehearsals some time.
    • If we see something in you that says you CAN do it, we'll ask you to be in a show.
    • After two shows, the rest of the litter will decide whether you're in based on: your work ethic, your ability, your progress, your shoes.
    • If it's unanimous, you're in! Simple as that.

    Now, you may ask "But WHY Rob? Why's it that way?". Simple, an audition can't tell you about how you are on your toes. Improv needs toes (or fitting prosthesis). Over time we see how you are and how you fit and how you grow and how quick you are.

    Why unanimity? Because we're a troupe. And we spend MANY hours together, we need to make sure everyone thinks you're a good fit. Just because you're NOT in right off the bat, doesn't mean you never will be. Sometimes we think you need just a little more time to gestate before you are birthed. I'll sit on you personally, err, maybe I'll find someone else to, if that's your preference. I'll be gentle though.
