Diversity and Independence: Recognition of the great strength in the diversity of our disciplines:
- Understanding the communication process including knowledge of the broad field that constitutes modern communication encompassing historical, theoretical, literary, oral, and technological; knowledge of, and experience in, public expression in a cultural context.
- Knowledge and appreciation of the arts including the importance of the variety of artistic expression; participation in making art as well as in studying its historical perspective, theoretical analysis, and critical review; and understanding the nature of symbolic expression.
